The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected – This error is generally seen when we try to transfer files from a phone to PC or vice versa. The main reason for this error is the operation which tries to copy a lot of files or multiple tasks at the same time with your phone or SD card or USB drive. In this article we will illustrate you few troubleshooting methods to resolve error.

Procedure to fix “The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected” problem.

  1. Perform one task at a time

You may reduce the scheduling tasks to avoid congestion. Do not try to delete a file when transfer is going on. Similarly avoid using phone when copying files from one device to another is running.

  1. Try to Reconnect the device again –

If device is busy performing any work in background and same time you wish to copy files then system gets slowed down and display an error. Then you can reconnect the device to fix such errors.

  1. Checking of USB Cable or Port –

Sometimes any damage to USB cable or port may create such error. So, check using another one would be the best. If problem is continued after replacement then follow next procedure below.

  1. Try to Uninstall and reinstall USB controllers –

Any internal issue with the USB controller may occur these types of error. So, you need to uninstall and then reinstall the USB controllers. Follow the steps given below.

Open Device Manager and navigate to Universal Serial Bus controller. Expand it and search for current USB Device which is creating the trouble. Right click on it and select Uninstall Device. Now unplug the device and restart the computer. Plug again and follow the installation prompt till end. You may take help of hardware and devices troubleshooter.
