Smart devices will automatically call the Police in Emergency
Smart devices will automatically call the Police in Emergency – Is it possible to build a device which automatically call for help for you when it is urgently required? The Police in New Mexico received a call for help from an unexpected source. The unexpected source was a smart home device which was present at the crime scene.
An armed man, allegedly threatening his girlfriend, asking “Did you call the sheriffs?”, as a result the device interpreted the question as a command and called 911, prompting a concerned dispatcher to send over the Police. The Police reached the spot and handled the situation.
Amazon Says- “Since the smart device called Alexa cannot call a number like 911 because there is no network attached with it to call anyone. It may be possible that Alexa called another Alexa powered device, that has a contact list to initiate a successful dial.
Although the event was not clear from both side but it may be possible to create such a device who initiate a phone call for help when in need. At present Smart home devices are capable of listening voice commands, recordings and audio samples. We can embed a refined algorithms and AI to use such audio samples to investigate the critical crime scenario.
A negative though with it was added by Natasha Duarte “Home is where Americans have the greatest expectation of privacy”. Also “It’s a complex space that we’re entering where we have these recordings being made in the place where people expect to have the most privacy”.
Baker, who ran the Vermant state police and its academy believes that if a smart home device could help to solve a crime or prevent a tragedy, we should use it. These devices can feel what is going on in the house and the system will call 911 if required. This may be a better resource for Police official and also save human life.
