At the time of booting, the first thing that loads up is the BIOS or UEFI Firmware. The BIOS lets you decide which hardware to use to boot the Windows. If a user wishes to boot from a USB drive or any external drive, he need to change the boot order in PC. The default booting hardware in your computer would be hard drive.

Procedure to change Boot order in Windows 10

To get into the BIOS, the default mechanism was to press a unique key like F2, DEL on keyboard. The procedure was followed on computer having OS prior to Windows 10. But in Windows 10, there is an inbuilt recovery system which allow you to do lots of things. This makes booting into BIOS much easier than before by pressing a key for long time.

In this article we will focus on procedure to boot into Windows 10 firmware settings like UEFI/ BIOS. We will also see options to change the boot order in Windows 10.

Procedure to Change Boot order in Windows 10

Open the Windows Settings > Update & Security > Recovery Advanced Startup > Restart Now. Now the system will reboot and offer you all Advanced Options. Now click and wait till you get these options explained below.Procedure to change Boot order in Windows 10

  1. Change Windows Firmware settings
  2. Configure Windows Startup settings
  3. Boot windows from a device or disk
  4. Restore Windows from system image.

After selecting the appropriate Option, select troubleshoot followed by Advanced Options. The advanced options include System restore, Startup repair, Go back to the previous version, System image recovery, Command Prompt and UEFI Firmware Settings.

 

Now click on UEFI Firmware Settings, which will restart your PC. Once the System is On, it will take you to the Firmware settings.Procedure to change Boot order in Windows 10

Now Navigate to Boot Tab. Here you will see Boot Priority which enlists connected hard drive, CD/DVD ROM and USB drive (if any). Use arrow key or +/- key to change the order. At last save and exit the interface.
