LOGO Drawing Programming LanguageLOGO Drawing Programming Language – LOGO Language was designed in 1967 by Wally Feurzeig, Seymour Papart and Cynthia Solomon at Bolt, Beranek and Newman (BBN), a Cambridge, Massachusetts research firm. Logo is popularly known for its use of turtle graphics, in which commands for movement and sketching produces line graphics on screen or with a small robot called turtle. Logo programming language is so designed that it help kids to learn programming easily. Instead of learning theory or going through complicated programming structures, users can learn programming basics with simple words and directions. The logo Programming Language is also called as a dialect of Lisp, was designed as a tool for learning.

What are features of LOGO Programming language?

  1. Most known features is the turtle, as an on screen ‘cursor’ that showed output from commands for movement and small pen together developing line graphics.
  2. Interactivity – It helps out the programmer at the time of debugging and learning process by prompting Error message in descriptive form. It also provide immediate feedback to user during processing.
  3. Flexibility – It is flexible in terms of words and lists following strict rules regarding integrity of data.
  4. Enhancements – it contains enhance features while working for different works. These are Object oriented Concepts, Multi-tasking, language features etc.
  5. Modularity and Extensibility – It usually contains a number of small procedures which are used with the special word ‘TO’ followed by the name of procedure.
  6. A Turtle robot, which is controlled by users workstation that is designed to carry out drawing functions allocating to it using a small retractable pen which are set into or attached to the robots body.

The language is modular, extensible, interactive, and flexible. The experienced programmers can perform complex tasks and build sophisticated projects by using features of LOGO Programming Language. It provides the student with a rich set of numerical and symbolic proto types as an element for complex program structures. The creation of these structures is greatly influenced by a procedure-oriented programming heuristic and by recursive programming.

One of the two major properties which were designed into Logo is turtle graphics. A turtle composed of a triangle or symbol which are controlled by commands from the keyboard or from within a Logo program. For example, the command FORWARD 60 RIGHT 80 will tell the turtle to move forward 60 units and turn right 80 degrees. The advantages of using turtle graphics are obvious to anyone to use logo. Logo language is procedural language.
