How to transfer Windows Licence from One PC to Other – Whenever we buy a brand-new PC with Genuine Window, it associates with a unique licence key. This licence key provides admin privilege to Windows installed in that computer. If you are going somewhere and want to use your genuine Windows, then it is possible. You need to transfer Window license to another computer. There are two cases which must be noted before transferring.
Points to be noted before transferring Windows license
Case 1 – If you have purchased a new license key or product key of Windows. Windows purchased by you is a retail copy and it is tied to you. So, a retail license is tied to a person.
Case 2 – If you have purchased a laptop and Windows came as preinstalled OES OS, then transfer is not possible because OEM license is tied to the hardware.
How to transfer Windows License from One PC to Other?
The License can only be transferred when it is uninstalled from existing computer and installed on new computer. This can easily be done with the help of command prompt window.
Open Command Prompt with admin privilege and enter the below command –
Slmgr.vbs / upk (It will uninstall the Windows product key)
Install Windows on another computer. Make sure that you chose the option “I don’t have a product key” when it is asked to enter a valid product key. When installation is over. Open the command prompt window with admin privilege and enter the following command. The command will install the Product key on new machine.
Slmgr.vbs / ipk (enter the valid product key)
