How to Manage Cellular Settings on Windows 10 – A user can connect to a data network in two ways either through SIM Card in them or external cellular device (like Modem or mobile network). In the case of external cellular device user has to select data plan from a mobile operator to access network. If you are connecting a cellular data network for the first time, then Goto Network icon on lower right of the taskbar and select the cellular network in the list. Enter the user name, password and access point name (APN) if required. If the cellular data connections is working correctly then no need to change the cellular settings. If the cellular network is not working correctly, it means there may be error in any sections of the cellular settings. In this article we will illustrates the correct settings for each parameters available for cellular settings one by one.
- Let Windows manage this connection –
This setting determines if your PC will automatically connect when it is available. Select the check box to automatically connect network, if it is available. Deselect if you want to connect manually. If you are not connected in either of the case during connection availability do the following.
Goto Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Let Windows manage this connection > Connect.
- Data Roaming Options –
To find this settings, Goto Start > Settings> Network & Internet > Cellular > Data > Roaming Options. This setting is beneficial when your PC is in Roaming. Select Don,t roam to prevent data roaming charges.
- Network Selection –
To find this settings, Goto Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Advanced Options. The default setting for this is automatic; means select the strong network if present. The user can select the network manually by searching the available network and select another one according to your choice.
- Active Network
To find this settings Goto Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Advanced Options. This displays the name of the cellular network that your are using currently.
- Add an APN –
If your cellular data connection is not working and you can’t connect to the Internet, create a new Internet APN based on your location and mobile operator. The internet APN is set automatically. To create a new APN follow below.
- Goto Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Advanced Options > Add an APN.
- Profile box – type a name of APN; APN box – type the address for APN; Username box – type the username of mobile account ; Password box – type a password; Select Type of sign-in info, and then select the authentication method; Select IP type, and then select the type of IP address to use; Select APN type, and then select Internet; select check of Apply this profile > Save > OK.
- Properties Settings –
To find this settings Goto Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Advanced Options. This shows you about cellular data connection available in your PC.
- Use SIM PIN –
This is best for security purpose if your PC embedded SIM used to connect data connection. You may create a PIN for security by following steps given below.
Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Advanced Options > Security > Use SIM PIN
- Remove SIM PIN –
This option is available in Security section. This option will appears only when you are using a SIM PIN. If your want not to use SIM PIN select Remove SIM PIN option and click OK.
- Change SIM PIN –
This option is available when you are using a SIM PIN. You can change the PIN by inserting the current one first followed by new one. You can find this option in security sections.
- Unblock SIM PIN –
Whenever an user insert incorrect SIM PIN three times. The SIM will be blocked and cannot be used until you unblocked again. To unblock it you are required to contact your mobile operator for PIN Unblocking key (say PUK) code. Now when you get PUK, select Unblock SIM PIN option under security option and get access.
