Type msconfig.exe & press enter to open System Configuration Window.

Go to General Tab and select Selective Startup. Uncheck the "Load startup items" option and Click on Apply & then OK. Navigate to Services Tab and select "Hide all Microsoft Services" option available on left side of System Configuration Window. Then click on Disable All button. Finally Restart the PC.

Go to Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update > Run the Troubleshooter.

Open the File Explorer Window and Type System32 in the Path Provided. As a result, System32 folder will open. Now Type WSReset.exe in the Search box. Then Right click on it and Select Run as Administrator.

This will reset all settings with making any new changes to the Windows store.

Procedure4: A Software distribution folder is used to temporarily store the files which are required at the time of Installation of Windows update. The folder is located in Windows Directory. It is duly maintained by WUAgent.

Since the contents inside the folder are being deleted manually. But it is done only when we stop the execution of Windows Update service. After we delete the content of the folder, restart the Windows Update Service. So, Open the Command prompt Window and type the following command sequentially.

To Stop the Windows Update Service

net stop wuauserv

net stop bits

Delete the content inside Software distribution folder.

To Start the Windows Update Service

net start wuauserv

net start bits

Procedure5: During Windows Update, the catroot2 folder stores the signatures of the Windows Update package and helps in its installation. So, reset it as soon as possible.

Open command prompt Window and type the following command sequentially.

net stop cryptsvc

md %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old

xcopy %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old /s

Now navigate Catroot2 folder and delete its content.

net start cryptsvc
