How to fix Search not Working in Windows 10 PC



Search not Working in Windows 10 - I have downloaded a multimedia player for watching lists of favourite movies. I noticed that after downloading the player, System gets disturbed. Running slow, startup delay, low performance, more battery consumption, etc. was the new problem. So, I decided to uninstall the multimedia player from Control Panel.


I started searching Control Panel from Search Panel. But no result was found. I tried again & again but could not found the Control Panel. Each time Search result showed message like "No results for Control Panel". Same case was repeated with the Search bar. Finally, I started troubleshooting the issue. Procedure to Fix Search not working in Windows 10 PC



Open the File Explorer. Select the drive where operating system is installed (say C). Right click and select Properties. Then properties window will open. Navigate at the end where checkbox with text "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" is available. Enable the checkbox. Click on Apply then OK.



Open the system drive and enter the following path on search bar.


C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState


Where <username> is the name assigned to the Computer (Computer name).




Then right click on the Indexed folder and select properties. In Indexed Properties window select the General Tab. Click on Advanced button at the below. On Advanced Attributes, enable the checkbox saying "Allow files in this folder to have indexed in addition to file properties". Click on OK then Apply.




Restart the Computer and check if problem is solved, else -




  1. Run System File Checker



This is also knowns as sfc.exe file. This utility will allow user to scan and restore corrupt system files. Open command prompt window and type sfc / scannow. Press Enter button and wait a minute to complete.





  1. Repair System Image (DISM)



This will work if Windows image is not working. Run DISM tool to update the files and correct the problem.


Open Command Prompt with administrative privilege. Enter Dism/Online/Cleanup-Image with following switches.





  • Dism/Online/ Cleanup-Image/ ScanHealth

  • Dism/ Online/ Cleanup-Image/ CheckHealth


  • Dism/Online/ Cleanup-Image/ RestoreHealth




  1. Rebuild Search index



It is a powerful search feature that initiates quick searching of files in our system. Open the Indexing Options using Control Panel.


Control Panel > All Control Panel Options > Indexing Options.




With Indexing options, we can modify the Index locations. We can pause indexing for few minutes at any point of time. Use advanced button for more settings. For more management run SearchIndexer.exe in Windows Task Manager.
