Something happened and this app couldn’t be installed - We love to download application from Windows Store. There are lots of applications available on Store. But sometimes downloading & installing apps creates trouble. It throws error message saying "Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again". This error might pop up during downloading or installing an app. It might pop up when installation stops or downloading failed.

The solution to this problem is simple and do not require tech hand. There are many possible reasons of showing this store error. Let us discuss the steps and fixing procedures.

  • Date & Time Settings

If System shows incorrect date & time, then installation gets hampered any time. Make it correct using Control Panel. Go to Search bar and type Control Panel. Press Enter to open Control Panel. Click on Clock, Language and Region option from the menu. Go to Region panel and click on Change date, time or number formats. Adjust correct date & time according to your present location.

Sometime this error pops up a message saying "The time setting on your PC might be incorrect. Go to PC settings, make sure the date, time, and time zone are set correctly, and then try again".

  • Ensure Windows Firewall is enabled

If Windows Firewall is disabled on your PC, then it will block downloading/ installation from Windows Store. Ensure that the Windows Firewall is enabled.

How to enable Window Firewall?

Go to Search bar and type Windows Firewall. Click on the search option (Windows Firewall). You will be automatically reached on Control Panel > System and System > Windows Firewall. On Firewall Window ensure that it is ON.

Alternatively, you can enable Windows Firewall using Services tool. Just type services.msc and click on search result (Services). Check that value is set to Automatic and started.

  • Run Windows 10 Store Apps Troubleshooter

This is a built in tool from Microsoft which help you solving app installation issues. This is also valuable when Windows Store is not responding or working.

  • Resetting Windows Store Cache memory

Clear the Store Cache memory using wsreset.exe command.

  • Perform Clean Boot State

Press Win+R to open Run command window. Enter msconfig & press OK. Then System Configuration Window will open. Navigate to Services tab & check Hide all Microsoft Services. Navigate to Startup Tab and click on "Open Task Manager". In the Task Manager Window you have a list of all Startup apps. Disable all apps one by one. Close Task Manager Window. Now go to System Configuration Window and click Apply & OK to save the changes. At last a dialog box asking Restart will open. Perform restart.


  • Change present Internet Connectivity

Most of the user informed us that this problem is automatically solved when they changed their internet connection.

  • Synchronize Windows Store License

Synchronizing of Windows store license is most important. If license on Windows store is not sync properly, then installation of apps gets stuck.

Open Window Store > Settings > Enable App Update & Sync Licenses. Finally restart the system and check if problem is solved.
