How to fix Task Host is Stopping background tasks

How to fix Task Host is stopping background tasks - Whenever a task is unclosed and at the same time we shutdown our PC, then it will show an error preventing the normal shutdown. There are two options to fix it either by closing the application or shutdown forcly. But sometimes the process might be different saying "Task Host Window, Task Host is stopping background tasks". This is an update file which is preventing the PC updating and hence showing such an error. In this article we will perform some troubleshooting steps to counter the error.

  • Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Go to start and open the settings page. Select Updates and Security and click on Troubleshoot tab to open the Troubleshooter Page. Scroll down to find the Windows Update Troubleshooter in the list and run it. Check if problem is fixed or not.

  • Change the Sign-in option

Open the Settings Window > Accounts > Sign in Options. Next Go to Privacy and search for "Use my sign in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart". Now turn off this feature and see if problem is solved.

  • Restart Install Service

Open Services Manager and locate to InstallService Service. Right click on it and select Restart. Reboot the Computer now. Check again if problem is solved.

  • Turn Off Hybrid Shutdown/ Fast Startup -

With reference to speed up issue of Windows, we try to turn off hybrid shut down or fast startup. To do this press Win+R and type the command powercfg.cpl. Then select "Choose what the power button does". Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable". At last uncheck the option "Turn on fast startup".

  • Reduce Shutdown time –

Open Run command and type regedit. Enter to open the registry editor. Switch to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control

Now right click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout in right pane and set the value to 5000. Again, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop. Now right click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout in the right-pane and change the value to 5000. Now save and exit. Check if problem is solved.
