How to fix error related to USB Controller in Windows - Sometimes after updating Windows we find that some USB connected devices do not support or malfunction. And we go for troubleshooting steps but there we face an error message "The USB Controller is in a failed state or is not currently installed" on screen. This error message is mostly seen on Window 10 PC. This error message prevent troubleshooter to function properly. The major reason behind such error is due to improper updating of windows PC. In this article we will focus on few troubleshooting methods to counter à "The USB Controller is in a failed state or is not currently installed" error.


How to fix error related to USB Controller in Windows


  1. First of all, we advise our users to restart your PC without any delay and do not engage till booting ends. If after restart problem resists go for next step.

  2. Secondly, Update the USB Drivers – You can install the latest version of driver either on system or manufacturers official website. Obey the guidelines properly during driver updating or installing. If any driver results incompatibility with present OS version, run the driver in Compatibility Mode. If updating the driver do not solve the problem proceed next.

  3. Uninstalling Flash Driver Version 3.0 from the BIOS/UEFI settings may help you solving the issue. After successful troubleshooting, install the flash drive.

  4. Check Device Manager Properties – Go to Device Manager and click on View, then go to Show Hidden Devices. There will be list of devices having problems. Right click on it and go for Uninstall and reboot the system. When windows start again it will ask you about USB preferences.

  5. Disable USB Selective suspend setting in Power settings. This will suspend a specific port despite affecting the other ports. This is also done to save a lot of power. For this user has to go Advanced Power Options. If this did not work try for next method.

  6. Lastly Run Hardware Troubleshooter – Go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all > Select problem > OK. Alternatively, Click on Advanced > Apply Repairs Automatically > Next > Problem recognized and solved.
