The study by US and French researchers says that most users clicked the article by seeing the posters or image embedded with the article. Some organization have even completely disabled the commenting functions on their online website. The study also found that commenters don't reflects the large portion of audience who read news online but they belong to low educational and income levels or likely to be a male.


According to NRKbeta writer Stale Grut – "Some of our most read items have received a comment field that does not hold the usual quality, and we suspect that more people have only read the headline of the case before commenting". It is not clear whether reader compelling comments read the full article or not. Due to which most of the websites had retreated its comment section.


It was found that fewer than half of the readers who post comment spend more time reading the article then leaving and reading responses and nearly one in six spend more time with the comment than the matter of the article. The study also found that the article having attractive images are clicked and shared mostly on internet.
