QWERTY Vs Dvorak Keyboard Design Analysis - We usually use keyboards to input data or say texts & numbers on computers. But one thing which naturally comes to our mind is the QWERT design. QWERT Keyboard Design Facts


The modern keyboard design resembles the early typewriter design. In 1874, Christopher Sholes had designed the ancient typewriter having QWERT typing mechanism. The typewriter follows the mechanism with characters embedded at the end of the bar. When any key was pressed, the linkage would swing the bar into an ink tape. The paper kept behind the ink tape print the character after striking. Since Sholes prototype contain problems like bars Collision and Jamming. Afterwards the problem was countered by rearranging the keys with the most common letters found hard to reach the final spot.


Dvorak keyboard Design Facts


The Dvorak keyboard layout kept all of the most commonly used letters in the home row so that fingers don't have to move at all to hit these keys. The left hand entry has all the vowels & few consonants and right hand entry has only consonants.


QWERT and Dvorak Keyboard Analysis


Since QWERT keyboard is very different from the Dvorak keyboard design. The Dvorak keyboard was design on the view to minimize the distance travelled by the fingers during work. It also emphasised on alternate hand typing with consecutive letters. The analysis also shows that the article typed on Dvorak keyboard travelled 30 meters while 54 meters on QWERT Typing on same article. Despite of all such difference between the keyboards the users may switch to any of them by changing settings in their computer operating system.
