How to reactivate Window 10 after hardware changes - If a user has changed its Window 10 PC hardware such as Motherboard and wants to reactivate Window again on new upgraded hardware, then user has to follow few steps to accomplish such task. This can only be done with the user who has genuine license of Window 10 OS. So hardware changes and up gradation/ modification can be done easily.


Steps to reactivate window 10 after hardware changes:





  1. First of all add your Microsoft account and link it to the digital license. This can be done through options given in your settings.

    Path –Start> Settings> Update & Security > Activation> select "Add an account" > Sign in as Administrator. Then you will see message "Window is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" on Activation Page.


  2. Use well known Activation trouble shooter after performing hardware change. If you do not add your Microsoft account and link it to the digital license on your device, you won't be able to use the Activation trouble shooter to reactivate Windows after a hardware change.


  3. Path – Start > Settings> Update & Security > Activation > select Troubleshoot. The user has to sign in as administrator to perform smooth task. Now the trouble shooter will display a message – "Windows can't be activated on your device".


  4. Then select "I Changed hardware on this device recently" and "Next". Now enter your Microsoft account and password to sign in. Now the window will show you list of devices that are linked to your Microsoft account, then select the device you are currently using and select check box to "This is the device I'm using right now and click Activate.

    Now if you are signed in using correct Microsoft account but can't reactivate Window, then the possible reason for this will be ---


    1. Window Edition Mismatch linked to your digital license.

    2. Device type Mismatch

    3. If windows was never been activated on your device.

    4. If you have reached the limit of no of times to reactivate windows.

    5. If more than one administrator are available on your Window.
