File Management System Basic ConceptsDefinition of File Management System Basic Concepts - A file management system is a type of software that manages data files and folders in a computer system. It has capabilities to designed, manage individual or group files, such as office documents, employee profile, videos, audios and records. A file management system is also known as a file manager.
The system by which an operating system or program organize and keep track of files and folders.

What is File Manager?

The computer program which provide easy and efficient user interface to manage files and folders stored in hard drive on computer machine is called as File Manager. The common operations which can be performed on these files and folders are Creating, Opening, renaming, deleting, copying, moving, searching etc. The hierarchical tree model is used to design Folders and Files in computer machine. The network connectivity is possible by using some protocols like FTP, NFS, SMB etc. Some of the popular File Manager used nowadays are – File list File Manager, Navigational File Manager, Orthodox File Manager, Spatial File Manager, Web based File Managers and 3D File Managers.

Disadvantages of File Management System

  1. Data redundancy and inconsistency - The data redundancy is the condition when same piece of data occurs in two separate places. It will occupy more space and reduce the size of memory.

  2. Data isolation – During searching of contents in file and folder, a condition exists when the searching term does not exists.

  3. Concurrent access anomalies

  4. Atomicity problems

  5. Difficulty in accessing data
